Now when the salary is split between Jobs or Classes, you can change the total salary amount. When you change one amount of a split salary, that rate of change is applied to the other items. For example, if the employee has a $1,500 salary split three ways and you change one of the $500 amounts to $250 (as they took 1/2 of the pay period off without pay) then the other line items change to $250 as well. | Copy last earnings table & new earnings rates |
Please change QuickBooks so that even when I have the "Copy last earnings table" option turned on, an employee's new rate of pay is reflected on a new paycheck. |
The "Copy last earnings table" feature used to copy the entire earnings table from the last paycheck, including the rate(s) of pay. This is useful when your employee work similar jobs from week to week and you don't want to do the data entry over and over in the earnings table. Now the standard employee pay rate, where there is one, is used when creating new paychecks, even when the "Copy last earnings table" option is in use. All other data continues to copy from the last paycheck. Improved in QuickBooks 2007 R6 |

preview |
| Payroll without Schedules |
I don't want to use payroll schedules. Please let me do payroll the "old way". |
Starting in R4, it's now easier to understand how to do payroll without using schedules/groups. Now when there are no schedules setup, you can access Pay Employees directly from the Employee menu and from the Payroll Center. While you will still see the new Enter Hours window instead of the old Pay Employees window, note you can click on the first employee's name to review the "stack" of new paychecks just as in previous QuickBooks versions. Improved in QuickBooks 2007 R4 |
|
| Don't copy hours from prior payroll |
I don't want to see the hours for the prior payroll. I've turned off copy Qty, but the hours still reappear with each new payroll. |
Now you can disable the feature to copy the last Hours as well as the last Qty (two different settings.) Once turned off, no hours will prefill with each new payroll. This gives you a "clean slate" from which to enter hours based on paper timecards or other sources. Improved in QuickBooks 2007 R4 |
preview |
| Need to enter negative hours to fix a payroll mistake |
I need to enter negative hours on a paycheck to help me fix mistakes from a prior payroll or do other calculations. However, QuickBooks won't let me. |

| Separate DD paychecks from other paychecks |
I have some employees who get their paychecks Direct Deposited and others who receive paper checks. How can I sort these out when paying employees? |
Now with Scheduled Pay Groups, you can separate your DD employees from other employees: When paying the DD employees, you can select to not mark paychecks "To Be Printed" and give them a check number like "DD100" (in this case QuickBooks will count up from 100 with each subsequent DD check.) You can then print or email Paystubs to your DD employees. Next, pay the non–DD group of employees and select "To Be Printed" for the checks, then print on QuickBooks–compatible check stock. |
|
| Prev/Next through new paychecks |
I want to be able to move back and forth through the stack of new paychecks and make changes. Sometimes I accidentally forget to make a change, then it's hard to find the paycheck in the register. |
Now you can! Now paychecks have both Save & Next and Save & Previous buttons, and you can move back and forth through new paychecks in order to make adjustments. Once complete, the new paychecks are recorded and can be printed. |
|
| Improved Summarize Payroll in Excel reports |
I like the Summarize Payroll Data in Excel reports, but I need to customize them. |

| Replace out–of–date tax forms with Excel reports |
Even though I don't subscribe to payroll, I want to view my tax forms numbers for easy transcription to current paper forms. |
While we would like all customers to subscribe to payroll, we have added key tax forms data to our new Excel–based tax reports, designed to replace out–of–date Federal forms previously available to non–subscribers. These reports show the details for difficult–to–calculate numbers. These include most fields on the 940, 941, and W2's. Among others, these hard–to–calculate fields are included: 940 Boxes 3 – 8, 941 Boxes 2 – 6, and W2 Boxes 1 – 20. Improved in QuickBooks 2007 R6 |

On the Pay Payroll Liabilities window, please let me pay all my 941 liabilities together with the push of a button. Sometimes I check off the wrong items and it seems silly to have to check off the same items every time. |
We listened! QuickBooks 2007 now allows you to set up "scheduled" tax payments. These scheduled tax payments automatically include all the right items for 941 and 940 taxes. Also, all of the states now automatically group the right payroll items together. Once setup, the Payroll Center will show you exactly what to pay and when to pay your taxes. When a sales order is partially filled my customers need to see what is on backorder. Please add a way to maintain accurate backorder quantities on sales orders. |
Partially filled Sales Orders now display and print Ordered, Invoiced, and Backordered quantities. This feature is available in QuickBooks Premier and Enterprise |

| Track all costs in an Assembly |
I need to track all costs, including labor, to build a finished good/finished product. |
Customers can now add labor and overhead to Assembly Items and can include all costs in a Bill of Materials when they include Service, Non–inventory Part, and/or Other Charge items. This feature is available in QuickBooks Premier and Enterprise |
|
| Assemblies now show total materials cost |
When an assembly item is built it does not automatically show the cost of the individual inventory items. |
In the New/Edit Item dialog, an Inventory Assembly now calculates and displays the total Bill of Materials Cost of all component items. You can also enter the total in the Cost field, which can be used to markup the finished good/product. This feature is available in QuickBooks Premier and Enterprise |
|
| Printable Bill of Materials |
There is no way to print a bill of materials list for my assembly items. |
You can now print assembly items with a bill of materials from QuickBooks. This feature is available in QuickBooks Premier and Enterprise |
|
| "Full View" for Bill of Materials |
In assembly items, the current bill of materials displays only four line items at a time. Some of my assembly items have 100 or more components in a BOM. |
A resizable view has been added to the bill of materials for assembly items. Now many more lines can be displayed. This feature is available in QuickBooks Premier and Enterprise |
preview |
| Manufacturers' part numbers on Items |
I need to display the manufacturer's part number for the items I list on Purchase Orders. |
A Manufacturer's part number is now part of the item setup for inventory and non–inventory parts. It can be displayed as a separate column on Purchase Orders. This feature is available in QuickBooks Premier and Enterprise |
|
| Better access for Price Level reports |
Price Level reports are hard to find. |
The "Item Price List for Price Level" report is now available from the Reports menu. It has a "Select Price Level" option that lets you choose which Price Level report you want to view/print. |
|
| Item price rounding options |
Allow me to set the number of decimal places that are shown on an item price. I need to round my prices to the nearest whole cent. |
Now you can round an item's sales price to the nearest cent, nickel, quarter, dollar, and so on. As a result, you no longer have to deal with sales prices of more than two decimal places. You can round the following item types up or down: Service, Inventory Part, Inventory Assembly, Non–inventory Part, and Other Charge. |
|
| Item Change Cost |
I'd like to change item costs and sales prices from the "Create Item Receipts" or "Enter Bills" windows directly, instead of opening the item list. |
Now when you enter a new cost for an item on a purchase form, you now get an option to update the item's cost. (Purchase forms include Purchase Orders, Bills, and Checks.) Item Types with this feature include: Services, Inventory Parts, Inventory Assemblies, and Non–inventory Parts. |
|
| Sales Order fulfillment worksheet |
I need to decide which Sales Orders to fulfill first. |
Now you can choose from several options to help decide which order to pick, pack, and ship. For example, you can sort by date ordered or completely fulfilled. You can also batch–print Pick Lists, Packing Slips, and Sales Orders. Additionally, you can QuickZoom to the Sales Order to create the Invoice. This feature is available in QuickBooks Premier and Enterprise |
preview |
| Multiple Sales Orders convert to a single Invoice |
I need to be able to create a single invoice with items coming from several sales orders, instead of one invoice per sales order. |
You can now create a single invoice from multiple sales orders! This feature is available in QuickBooks Premier and Enterprise |
|
| Pick List/Packing Slip |
I don't have a way to print a pick list or packing slip. Our warehouse staff sometimes pulls the entire order again since they don't know that part of it was previously fulfilled. |
You can now print a pick list & packing slip based on a sales order. The pick list shows only items that haven't been filled. This feature is available in QuickBooks Premier and Enterprise |

| Lists |
| Searching lists |
There should be a way to search customer, vendor and employee lists based on name, address, city, zip, phone number, and so on. |
With the new customer, vendor and employee centers you can filter the lists to display only certain items. This is a useful way to find a particular list entry or to display only a particular set of entries. For example, you might want to find and display only a particular customer, or find and display your vendors from a particular city. |

| MS Office® Integration |
| Improved Word® and Excel® Integration |
QuickBooks has offered integration with Microsoft Office applications such as Word® and Excel® since QuickBooks 99. Now these features are easier to find. |
We added additional access points to the Word® and Excel® integration capabilities QuickBooks offers. Also, now you can import custom fields on Item records using the Excel import function. |
|
| Improved Microsoft Outlook® Integration |
I want the ability to use my QuickBooks data with Microsoft Outlook®. |
We built a new QuickBooks Contact Sync tool for Microsoft Outlook®. This free download allows users to synchronize their Customer, Job, and Vendor information with Outlook® contacts. With QuickBooks Contact Sync, your critical contact information – email addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses, and even notes from customer conversations – is automatically synchronized at the click of a button. The tool works with Microsoft Outlook® 2000, 2002, & 2003 and is available as a free web download at: www.quickbooks.com/contact_sync. |

| Multi–User Features |
| More Simultaneous Users |
I need more than 10 users to access my company data at the same time. |
QuickBooks Enterprise now allows simultaneous access for up to 15 users. This feature is available in QuickBooks Enterprise |
|
| Multi–User performance improvements |
QuickBooks is too slow and it's getting slower as my file gets bigger! |
QuickBooks 2006 now has a new underlying database. As a result, benchmark tests with QuickBooks 2006 for multi–user performance measured two and a half times better than the same tests against QuickBooks 2004. Customer Comments: Falcon Executive Aviation (QuickBooks Enterprise, 10 users): "We won't go back. We love QuickBooks but were at the end of our rope with it due to performance issues with 10 users – it was either change products or the 2006 Beta version of QuickBooks. We love it. We'e staying with QuickBooks." Dean & Associates: "You guys have made me a hero. I am getting great reports on the performance enhancements. My staff are e–mailing me with thanks." |
|
| Navigation |
| Removed Advertising from Navigators |
Let me remove advertising from the navigators. Really, if I want to buy anything else from you, I'll go on the website myself. |
The new "Home Page" Center contains only a small section called "Learn About Services". Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R6 |
|
| Resize columns in transaction tables |
I'd like to resize columns on my transaction forms (such as Invoices, Checks, and Bills.) |
Now most windows and forms in QuickBooks have resizable columns, allowing you to view more of what's important to you and less of what's not. |
preview |
| Streamlined Menus |
Please make features easier to find. I've been using QuickBooks for years and just found a feature that's been there for a long time. |
It's now easier to find the features you regularly use in the new streamlined menus. We've reduced cross–sell and feature redundant items. Now there are 40% fewer top–level menu items. |
|
| Customizable Home Page |
The navigators are not as customized to my business as they should be. For example, QuickBooks ask me in the Easy Step Interview whether I want to track my expenses (Accounts Payable), but even when I say "no" the feature still shows up on my navigator. |
The new Home page is customized for your business, based on your answers to the updated Easy Step Interview and your preference settings. |
|
| Consolidated company home page |
I don't want to have to search through 5 different navigators to find what I am looking for. I want one place where I can go to access all of my most important activities. |
The new company "Home page" gives you one–click access to your most important activities from a single screen. |

| Print Checks access points |

| Help improvements |
Please make help more helpful. |
The help team's project "100 days of help" made many changes to help in this release. Look for richer content and updated help topics based on your In–Product help feedback! Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R5 |
|
| Reminders keep showing up! |
I keep getting the same reminders over and over, such as to file tax forms. |
We fixed the underlying issue that caused the same messages to reappear. After upgrading to R5, you may still see some of the same reminders until they are all "cleared from the queue", and then they will go away! Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R5 |
|
| QuickFill is not working correctly |
Accounts entered by account number don't auto–fill properly when typed into the account field. |
This situation occurs when both the Use account numbers & the Automatically open drop–down lists when typing preferences are active. This problem has been resolved in R3. Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R3 |

Please allow me to enter two Direct Deposit accounts on an employee record! It was working, but now it is not. |
Fixed the employee record. Now QuickBooks correctly saves two Direct Deposit accounts, as was originally designed. Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R5 |
|
| email Paystubs to employees |
I'd like to email Paystubs to my employees. This is especially useful for employees who's net pay is direct deposited using the direct deposit service. |
Added the capability to email Paystubs directly from QuickBooks. To access this feature, first update to R3 & then choose File | Print Paystubs. Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R3 |

| Added new state forms |
I'd like to see more state forms offered in the Enhanced Payroll Service. |
Added additional state forms for the following states: Arkansas, District of Columbia, Idaho, Mississippi, North Dakota, Ohio, Utah, West Virginia. For a complete list of State Payroll Forms, see www.quickbooks.com/taxforms. Improved in Payroll Update 20601 This feature is available to QuickBooks Enhanced Payroll subscribers |
|
| New 943 payroll form! |
Please add the 943 form. This request has come in consistently from agricultural business over the last several years. |
Due to the inclusion of new TurboTax technology in QuickBooks, we are now able to add the 943 form. To get this form, be sure to get the latest payroll update. Improved in Payroll Update 20601 This feature is available to QuickBooks Enhanced Payroll subscribers |
|
| Better access to information stored on payroll items |
I'm not sure where my wage limits, tax rates, and tax ID's are stored, and/or can't find where to enter or change this information. |
Changed the Payroll Item List to include additional commonly used columns including the item rates, limits, payable to, and ID information. Now each time you view the list you can quickly see these details. |
preview |
| Make paychecks easier to find |
I want to review, change, or reprint existing paychecks for an employee, but I'm having trouble locating them. |
The new Employee Center makes it easy to locate existing paychecks. The Center replaces the Employee List. After clicking on an employee in the list, the employee's YTD paychecks are displayed almost immediately. To review a paycheck, double–click it to open it. |
preview |
| Faster data entry when creating paychecks |
When creating paychecks, there is no way to tab from table to table. I have to use the mouse. |
We created hot–keys to move from table to table on the paycheck. Now Alt–A, Alt–E, Alt–O and Alt–M move the data entry point from one table to another without using the mouse. |
|
| Fix sick/vacation balance when reprinting older paystubs |
When I print old paystubs for an employee, the current sick & vacation balances print. Also, the current employee information such as number of deductions and filing status prints. |
Since QuickBooks tracks sick & vacation only as current balances, we changed paystub printing so that historic paystubs don't include the sick/vacation balances or the employee status information. |
|
| Prevent accidental paycheck recalculation |
Please let me adjust my historic paychecks to add or remove jobs or classes, correct the earnings item I used, or even to add or remove sick/vacation time without automatically recalculating the net pay. |
Added a new feature to paychecks called "Lock Net Pay" that allows you to safely make any changes in the earnings table of a paycheck as long as the earnings total doesn't change. You can safely save the paycheck without recalculating taxes or net pay. |
preview |
| Semi–Monthly pay period improvements |
Please fix semi–monthly pay periods where the pay period is not the 1st – 15th & 16th – 31st. I pay on another period, like the 5th – 20th, and the period begin & end dates are always wrong and must be reset on each paycheck. |
We added logic to properly set the pay period begin and end dates for this case. Now, after setting the pay period end date on the Select Employees to Pay window, the periods for each paycheck are calculated as you would expect them to calculate. |
|
| Employee hours are now sent to payroll forms |
Please add Hours values to my state payroll tax forms. |
Some state payroll forms ask for hours. Different states have different meanings for "hours". QuickBooks now sends hours by sub–type in some detail to the state forms, which will allow most forms to pre–fill your employee hours (changes for forms coming in the next few months.) Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R7 This feature is available to QuickBooks Enhanced Payroll subscribers |
|
| Help & Guidance for W–2's |
How do I know my W–2 numbers are in balance and my W–2's are complete? |
Added error checking to the new W–2's, which use Turbo Tax technology. The error checking looks for taxes in balance, missing data, duplicate SSN's, invalid SSN's, and other W–2/W–3 inconsistencies. |
preview |
| More visibility for payroll tax forms |
I'm having trouble locating my tax forms. How do I create State and Federal forms? |
We added a "Process Payroll Forms" access point to the new Payroll Center. This takes you directly to the State and Federal tax forms feature. A list of currently supported payroll tax forms is available at www.quickbooks.com/taxforms. |
preview |
| 4 Box 14 lines items for W–2's |
I'm in New Jersey and we typically have 4 lines of detail for box 14. Because QuickBooks W–2's only prints three lines of detail on a W–2, QuickBooks prints a second W–2 for each employee. |
We changed the new W–2's to include 4 lines for box 14. Now most employers in New Jersey can print just one W–2 for each employee instead of two. |
|
| Pick exactly which W–2 sub–form to print |
I want to print just the state, federal, company, or employee copies of the W–2 form. Currently, some of these are mixed up on a single page. |
Changed the way W–2's print to support more business–specific workflows and to allow all customers to print one W–2 "copy" at a time. |
preview |
| New W–2 form styles |
Please add 4–up W–2 forms. |
Added a 4–up W–2, where all the forms needed for an employee print on one page! |

| Include a previously overpaid tax in a payment |
Please let me select a tax to pay, even it if has been overpaid before, as long as I'm paying it with other taxes. |
Now you can. Note this situation is useful only when paying a group of taxes, such as your 941 taxes. If one or more of the taxes was slightly overpaid in a previous month, you might want to select it anyway, and then it will reduce the total current payment. Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R7 |
|
| New deposit–frequency–based payroll liabilities |
Paying Liabilities is hard to figure out. To do it right, I need to manage pay frequencies, payroll dates, and other payment–related information. |
Added a new way to pay liabilities from the Payroll Center. Now you can setup custom "Deposit Frequencies" based on Federal and State requirements. After setup, your balances due will appear on the Payroll Center by their due date. From there, you can create a liabilitiy payment check with one click. |

| Where is Pay Employees? |
I can't find out how to pay employees! |
Starting in QuickBooks 2006, the Employee menu is service–context–sensitive. When you don't have a service, items you don't need are removed. We made the "no service" Employee menu clearer, adding a "Pay Employees" selection with sub–items for choosing your payroll option. Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R7 |
|
| Easier to add a company to your subscription |
I'm not sure if I can add an additional company to my payroll subscription or even how to do it. |
We added special menu choice that is visible when you may want to add a non–subscribed company to your existing payroll subscription: If you're subscribed to payroll, you can now see the "Add Payroll Service" and "Use my existing Payroll Service" options whenever you're in a company file that is not setup for payroll. After selecting the option, the new company is added to your subscription with a few clicks and in about 20 seconds. |
preview |
| Include timestamp in send/receive payroll window |
After sending my direct–deposit orders or my Assisted Payroll paychecks, I'm not sure if I sent payroll by the cutoff time. |
We now include the date and time of each payroll transmission. This allows you to look back and verify that your payroll was sent on time. |
|
| Easier access to service account information |
Please help me understand my next payroll–service bill date, the credit card used with the payroll service, my service status, and what company information you have for my payroll account. |
Added a link in the Payroll Center that takes you directly to your online account information. The "Account Maintenance" feature lets you review your company & account information and to make changes to you credit card and your contact information. |

| Save desktop when creating payroll forms |
After I create payroll forms, all my favorite windows are closed and have to be manually reopened. |
Now, after creating state or federal tax forms your desktop is restored. |
|
| Payroll Update improvements |
I've had trouble with the payroll update feature not finishing or giving me an error message I don't understand. |
We changed the update error messaging, now including text pointing customers to a special help site online. We also made payroll updates 25% more reliable by fixing customer–reported errors. The help site at http://www.quickbooks.com/support/payrollupdate focuses on error messages caused by internet–access problems (which are often related to firewall software.) |

| Performance/Speed |
| Performance when saving data |
Saving an invoice or other sales form takes too long. |
We made changes to increase performance when saving sales form transactions. In some tests, saving transactions is up to 100x faster than in previous releases of QuickBooks 2006 (your mileage will vary.) Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R6 |
|
| Moving between transactions is too slow |
Pressing "Previous" or "Next" on an Invoice or other form takes too long! |
We made moving from transaction to transaction much faster. Improved in QuickBooks 2006 R5 |
|
| Reporting |
| Improved Audit Trail |
The audit trail provides insight into what transactions have been changed & deleted but it is not utilized by many customers because it is off by default and makes QuickBooks run slower. |
In QuickBooks 2006 the audit trail is "always on" and does not affect performance. As a result, you can always see the complete history of a transaction, and when using user logins for QuickBooks access, you can see who changed what when. |
|
| Finding transactions |
Example Comments: Please make a separate "folder" or way to easily find a customer's history of previous transactions. It would be most efficient if we could pull up & QuickReport on a customer and see Estimates also. We need a list of Vendor purchases with totals. |
The new Customers, Vendors and Employee centers show key information for each record. For example, when you pick a customer, you can see a history of transactions by transaction type, which can be quickly filtered in several ways. |
|
| Totals on QuickReports |
I need QuickReports to show totals. |
The new Centers display totals on transaction views (wherever totals make sense.) |

| Default settings for QuickReports |
I want the ability to control the default settings for QuickReports. |
The new customer, vendor, and employee centers have transaction views that take QuickReports to the next level. They allow you to set defaults for each transaction view, including: Date Range, Columns Displayed, Column Order, and Sort Order. |

| Easier Credit Card Refunds |
I can't issue credit card refunds from receive payments. I have to create a credit memo then issue a refund. |
You can now issue credit card refunds directly from the receive payments form. |
|
| Save Item Description when Changing Items |
My Items don't have standard descriptions. When I enter the description I occasionally select the wrong item and then change it. When I do this I have to retype the description, which can be time consuming! |
QuickBooks now gives you the option to keep the original item description when you change an item on a sales form. |

| Vendors & Bills |
| Improved data–entry when entering Bills |
In the enter bills form, the reference number is not in the correct place. It should follow the date field. Consequently I sometimes forget to enter the reference number on my bills. |
The reference number field in the enter bills form is now placed immediately after the date field. |
|
| View & change vendor address in the enter bills Form |
When I enter bills, I cannot see the address for the vendor so there is no way for me to know if I have the correct address on file until I print the check. |
In the enter bills form you can now view and update the vendor address! |

As a result of the changes in these patches, QuickBooks is 30% more reliable. |
|
| Banking |
| Changes to support Check 21 |
I'm concerned about the new Check 21 changes. Will QuickBooks checks be accepted by my bank? |
Yes, QuickBooks checks will be accepted. QuickBooks now defaults to Arial 10 for check printing & always prints the check amount in Arial 10, even if you change the other fields to a different font. This ensures compatibility with check scanning equipment. Improved in QuickBooks 2005 R4 |
|
| Add payment method type list |
I want to receive other types of checks such as traveler's checks or gift checks and include them on printed deposits. |
Added a Payment method type list, and each payment method can be associated with a payment method type. For example, a payment method "Travelers Check" can be of the type "Check", and so can be included on printed deposits. |

| Auto–adjust for over or under payment |
Sometimes a customer pays the wrong amount. If they underpay by a small amount, I want to write off the difference. If they overpay, I'd like to quickly issue a refund. I'm not sure how. |
Receive payments will now prompt you when a payment amount and the invoices selected to pay don't match, offering the options to either write of an underpayment or quickly issue a refund for an overpayment. |
|
| Find open invoice by number at receive payments |
I have a payment for a specific invoice number, but I am having difficulty finding the customer or invoice. |
Now from receive payments you can search for an invoice number, and apply the payment to that invoice, without first finding the correct customer name. |
|
| Auto–fill payment amount based on open invoices |
When I receive a payment, and it is for the same amount as an outstanding invoice, I just want to click the invoice, not enter the payment amount first. |
If you don't enter a payment amount, QuickBooks will auto–calculate it for you as you check off Invoices to pay. |

Accountants with Enhanced Payroll Plus for Accountants now have the ability to access State Forms when working in client company files on the accountant's system, even when the client is subscribed to Standard Payroll service instead of the Enhanced service. Improved in QuickBooks 2005 R6 |
|
| Right–Click options at Select Employees to Pay |
When paying employees, I'd like to update the employee before creating a paycheck. |
We added right–click options at the Select Employees to Pay window. These enable you to conveniently edit employee records before paying employees. Improved in QuickBooks 2005 R6 |
|
| Increase size of paycheck voucher font |
The font on my paycheck vouchers is too small. I'd like to increase the font size. |
Changed the existing preference for larger/smaller fonts for Paystubs to include the Paycheck voucher. Now you can select a larger font for both of these printed forms in Payroll Preferences, available from the Edit menu. Improved in QuickBooks 2005 R6 |
|
| Paystub Security Improvements |
New California legislation mandates that Social Security Numbers (SSN) must not print in their entirety on paychecks. Printing the SSN is optional until 2008 and then it must be masked. |
Now only the last four digits of an employee's SSN prints on the paystub. This is a preference and can be changed to print the entire SSN or to omit the SSN. Improved in QuickBooks 2005 R4 |
|
| Paystub security changes |
When printing Direct Deposit paystubs, I'd like the employee's bank account to be 'masked' for security purposes. |
QuickBooks now masks the employee's bank accounts when printing Direct Deposit paystubs. Only the last 4 digits are visible, so the employee can identify the account. This a preference and can be changed to print the entire bank account number. Improved in QuickBooks 2005 R4 |
|
| Rename Sick and Vacation pay on paystubs |
My business has Paid Time Off (PTO) instead of Sick & Vacation. I want to print PTO on paystubs. |
Now you can give both Sick and Vacation benefits a custom name for printing on paystubs. |
preview feature |
| Net to Gross paycheck calculation |
I want to issue bonus checks to my employees for particular net check amounts, such as exactly $1,000. |
We added a new feature called "Enter net/Calculate gross" to paychecks. Now you can enter the net pay amount and QuickBooks will calculate the resulting earnings amount. |
preview feature |
| Copy last paycheck earnings table |
I enter jobs or classes for payroll checks. My employees work on similar or the same jobs or classes each week, and each week I must reenter this information on the paycheck. When creating new paychecks, I want the last paycheck earnings table for each employee to be the default for the new paycheck. |
In QuickBooks 2005 you can optionally copy the last paycheck's earnings table to a new paycheck for the same employee. This is great if you track multiple Jobs or Classes per check and they remain the same or similar from pay period to pay period. |
|
| Optionally exclude hours from salaried employees paystubs |
Printed paychecks & paystubs for salaried employees don't look very professional because they include the hours worked when hours are entered. I'd like to not print the hours, even if I enter them for job costing purposes. |
QuickBooks 2005 includes an option to not print hours for salaried employees. |
|
| Track sick & vacation by anniversary date |
I want to track my employees sick & vacation time by their anniversary or another date, not on the calendar year. |
Now each employee's sick and vacation can be tracked using a custom date, such as their hire date. |

| Added total hours to payroll summary report |
I want better reporting of total hours worked by employee. |
Now the Payroll Summary Report includes totals for both wages paid & hours worked. |

| Increase speed of State Payroll Forms for larger companies. |
Creating state payroll forms are slow and sometimes the form doesn't display. |
Made changes to the state forms feature to improve performance, especially in cases where there are many inactive employees who are not paid in the current year. Improved in QuickBooks 2005 R6 |
|
| Accountants Print State forms for their Clients |
I'm an Accountant subscribed to Enhanced Payroll for Accountants, which includes state payroll forms. However, when I use my customers' QuickBooks company files I can't create state payroll forms for them. |
We made changes so that customers with the Enhanced Payroll for Accountants service can create state payroll forms for their clients, even if their clients to not subscribe to the Enhanced service. Improved in QuickBooks 2005 R6 |
|
| 1099 feature improvements |
I'm having trouble getting all my 1099 forms to print. OR, trouble getting all the money paid to a 1099 Vendor to display on the 1099. |
We replaced the 1099 dialog with a new window that helps customers step through the 1099 configuration and verification process when creating 1099 forms. The new dialog helps customers set up applicable 1099 Vendors and accounts for each 1099 box in use. Improved in QuickBooks 2005 R6 |
|
| Added form 940EZ |
Please add the form 940EZ. My company qualifies to use the simpler EZ form, and I'd like to use it instead of the more complex form 940. |
We added the form 940EZ to the list of supported forms. |
|
| 3rd party preparer fields on tax forms are now editable |
Please enable me to enter 3rd party preparer information on payroll forms. |
QuickBooks 2005 now supports 3rd party preparer information on payroll forms. |
|
| Added hundreds of state payroll forms |
Please add state payroll forms, such as my State Unemployment form. |
Many state payroll forms are now included as part of the Enhanced Payroll Service. These forms are pre–populated using your QuickBooks payroll data and can be reviewed, edited, and printed from QuickBooks. For a complete list of supported forms, see http://www.quickbooks.com/taxforms. |
|
| 941 fields all editable |
I'd like to have access to all the numbers on payroll forms. |
Now the data on federal forms 941 & 940 can be edited right on the form using a new TurboTax based forms technology. |
|
| Prefilled 941 payment voucher |
I wish the 941 Payment voucher would pre–fill with all needed information, or be editable, and that it would only print when needed. |
Now the 941 voucher pre–fills with company information and you can optionally skip printing it when it is not needed. |

| New 943 payroll form! |
Please add the 943 form. This request has come in consistently from agricultural business over the last several years. |
Due to the inclusion of new TurboTax technology in QuickBooks, we were able to add the 943 form. To get this form, be sure to get the latest payroll update. Improved in Payroll Update 20601 |

| Streamline Direct Deposit setup |
When signing up for Direct Deposit, there are too many steps and it takes too long. |
With QuickBooks 2005, Direct Deposit is integrated with the available payroll services. Activation is quick and easy: Essentially, you specify a special PIN for transmitting your Direct Deposit orders and then verify your checking account. There is no up–front signup fee, and it can take as little as two days to be ready to transmit Direct Deposit orders. |

| Lists |
| Revised drop–list behavior |
I don't like the new QuickBooks 2005 feature that automatically opens drop down lists when I'm entering data. |
We added a preference for this feature, available in General preferences from QuickBooks' Edit menu. If you are an upgrader and like the old style, you may now change this behavior in preferences. Improved in QuickBooks 2005 R4 |
|
| Drop–lists auto–filter as you're typing |
It's hard to locate the correct list item. I have thousands of items and data entry is difficult. |
When entering text in list–driven fields on forms, now the pick lists auto–filter to match your data entry. |
|
| Resizable drop–lists |
When picking items from lists, the lists are too narrow to see the entire item name. |
Added the ability to resize columns in lists and also the width of drop down lists. Now the entire list name can be seen, no matter how wide it is. |

| Limit uncleard transactions in reconcile |
When a large client uses QuickBooks and has not reconciled for over a year, there could be thousands of checks that need to be reconciled (making the reconciliation a complete mess.) What about developing a method whereby you can limit the time period through which you are going to reconcile? |
We added a checkbox to reconcile window to display only items that occur before the statement date. |
|
| Undo reconcile after it's completed |
Please consider adding a feature that will allow you to "Un–reconcile" a range of dates in bank accounts. I had to spend hours un–checking all the items in order to reconcile. |
We've added the ability to "undo" previous reconciliations. |
|
| Customizable columns in reconcile |
I would like to see the deposit memo field displayed on the bank reconciliation screen (the right–hand deposits window). All our deposit entries have dates and amounts, but very few have "payees" leaving a large blank hole in the middle of this screen. |
We enabled you to choose the columns you want to display on the bank reconciliation screen. |

| Invoice layout improvements |
On a printed invoice, the quantities don't line up because some have decimal values and others don't. |
For each invoice template you can now force the quantities to line up by printing a specific number of decimal places. |

| Payroll |
| Payroll items with one–time and multi–year limits |
There should be a way to track to employee loans and other areas of payroll that might carry from year to year. I don't want my employee loans to restart at each new year. |
We added the capability to set up a payroll addition or deduction with a one–time limit which can span multiple years. |

| Payroll deductions now calculate on hours worked |
I would like to see our payroll item 401K calculated automatically as a function of the hours entered in payroll. When I create a paycheck I have to manually enter the hours worked to get the Labor & Industry tax calculation. |
